Make the installation legible
A useful installation plan makes decisions visible before work starts. It identifies room locations, artwork references, heights, clearances, sequence and open questions.
Planning scope
- Review drawings, schedules and artwork dimensions.
- Set wall locations, centre lines and positioning references.
- Coordinate mounting information with the relevant specialists.
- Sequence rooms, works, plinths and supporting tasks.
- Prepare room-based checklists and handover notes.
- Record changes, exceptions and final decisions.
Measurements and references
Measurements should be repeatable. Wall references, floor marks, datum points and room identifiers help different people work from the same information. A plan also distinguishes confirmed dimensions from items still requiring verification.
Positioning references are reviewed against the physical room. Drawings do not replace a site check: doors, services, skirting, lighting, access equipment and existing fixtures can all alter the practical installation route.
Final inspection
Post-installation inspection covers alignment, spacing, labels, display stability observations, route clearance, surface condition and removal of tools or protective materials. Results can be recorded as complete, outstanding or requiring responsible-party review.

Complex room sequences, multi-team installations, exhibition changeovers, display plans, pre-installation surveys and final presentation checks.
What to know
Planning improves coordination but does not replace structural, electrical, conservation or safety assessments. Those matters remain with the appropriate qualified authority. Documentation should reflect what was observed, agreed and completed rather than imply unsupported technical guarantees.
